ALERT BOX
Site Alerts - info...
Sites with active alerts appear in the alert box. Monitoring sites specific to each area flash RED if in flood or YELLOW when low flows are occurring. These warnings are defined by specific flood levels and water resource managment flows, such as minimum flows set for each site. Most of these flows and levels can be plotted on individual flow graphs displayed for each site.
Provisional Data - info...
The river, rainfall and temperature information displayed is from data received directly from the Council's raingauges and water level recorders via radio, cell phone and satellite link. The information is therefore provisional, and has not been checked using the Council's Quality Assurance procedures. Data is provided courtesy of Otago Regional Council, Contact Energy, Trustpower and the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA).
Data Update Frequency - info...
This information is updated 35 minutes past the hour, every 30 minutes, 24 hours per day. Data is provided from an extensive network of monitoring sites.
Even though these sites measure river and rainfall information continually, the times at which data is downloaded from remote sites may range in period between once every 30 minutes to once every 12 hours. The periods between data downloads are determined on the need to provide updated information. For example, during floods the flows being experienced at affected sites are downloaded more often so we can track flood peaks. During the irrigation season, flow information from rivers where low flows are occuring is updated regularly so water resource users can monitor flows and maintain minimum flows.
